Despite losing Gul Feroza (10) early after coming in to bat, Muniba Ali held the innings together as the hosts got off to a solid start, moving quickly to 45/1 in the powerplay and scoring 45 (34) with her bat to set the platform for her side.

Muniba shared a 49-run stand with Sidra Amin (28 off 25 balls) and the last 10 overs were a blistering one, and the rest of the players made the most of the opportunity.

Nida Dar and the skipper combined to put on 60 runs in just 38 balls and took the run rate to nine per over, hitting seven fours and two sixes. Dar completed 2000 T20I runs in her innings of 29 (21), while Sana scored at a strike rate of over 160, and was 37* (23) by the end of the innings.

Alia Riaz ensured a 180-plus total, scoring 14 off the final three balls of the innings to set the Proteas a tricky target of 182.

With the ball, Pakistan’s successful run continued through left-arm spinners Nashra Sundhu and Sadia Iqbal, who picked up a wicket each and bowled 24 dot balls to make South Africa’s challenge more difficult.

Iqbal dismissed Tazmin Brits (9) early, while Sundhu picked up the crucial wicket of Laura Wolvaardt (36 off 25 balls) as the pressure started to mount on the scoreboard. The pair picked up the wickets of Anneke Bosch (24) and Nadine de Klerk (12) in consecutive overs to leave the visitors reeling at 88/4.

Sune Luus and Chloe Tryon came together to put on 94 off 42 balls, but the target was proving to be difficult to reach. The pair put on 80 runs in the final seven overs, with the likes of Diana Baig and Tasmiya Rubab averting the danger in the final overs.
